Ramna Vord is part of the tiny, three-house settlement of Huxter which is situated near Sandness on the west of mainland Shetland.
By Air
If you're flying, you'll arrive in Sumburgh Airport at the south end of the Mainland. (Shetlanders call the biggest of the habitable islands 'The Mainland')
It takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes to drive to Ramna Vord from the airport. Take the A970 northwards towards Lerwick for 21 miles, then turn left onto the B9073 for 1 mile. At the end of that, turn right onto the A970 (again) signposted to the north. Take that for 1.5 miles, then turn left - signposted towards Hillswick, Sullum Voe and Sandness. After about 2 miles, turn left onto the A971 towards Sandness Walls and Sandness. Follow that for 17 miles - go over the Bridge of Walls, then immediately turn right onto a narrow, single track road signposted to Sandness for about 7 miles. Don't take any side turnings - keep going straight through Sandness, until you see a sign for Huxter. Ramna Vord is at the end of that road - past a croft house on your left.
By Sea
If you're arriving by boat on Northlink Ferries, you'll arrive in Lerwick. It takes about 3/4 of an hour to drive to Ramna Vord from the ferry terminal. Take the A970 for about 5 miles northwards towards Tingwall, then turn left onto the A971, signposted to Walls and Sandness.
Follow that for 17 miles - go over the Bridge of Walls, then immediately turn right onto a narrow, single track road signposted to Sandness for about 7 miles. Don't take any side turnings - keep going straight through Sandness, until you see a sign for Huxter. Ramna Vord is at the end of that road - past a croft house on your left.
